USA Groups’ Safety Program for Employees

Our employees are by far our most valuable resource – and no phase of business is more important than their personal safety. We believe that all accidents can be prevented and that safety is an integral part of everyone’s job.

Our customers, management, and employees are responsible for demonstrating safety leadership, providing a safe work environment, and promoting safety as a value. We believe that with the right processes in regard to hiring, certification, and training, we can accomplish our ultimate goal of Zero Accidents.

Hiring

Our zero accident philosophy is reinforced from the beginning with our staff recruitment process. It starts with being a drug-free workplace. We have no tolerance for this in our organization, period. Next we match the skill set of the potential employee with the job description he or she will be performing.

It makes no sense to hire someone with computer skills to perform a mechanically inclined task. And last, we maintain compensation levels at the top tier of our industry. We believe that paying well helps us attract the best in the industry. And the best employees stay safe.

Certification

Once new hires are onboarded, the training starts. All employees are required to attain certification based on job description in such courses like: Defensive Driving and Awareness – Industrial Hygiene – RF Awareness – OSHA 10 Hour General Industry – OSHA 10 Construction – First Aid – CPR/AED. One of our favorite training classes is in regards to Behavioral Based Safety.

This course is intended to create a “safety attitude” so that safety is not a task, but a state of mind. Once minimum levels are achieved, employees have a clear path to advanced certifications but it is this baseline that affords us the opportunity to maintain a zero accident philosophy.

Training

Ongoing training is not just something we offer as a benefit, it is required. In order for employees to advance their careers within our company, they must continue to train and increase their levels of certification. This helps to keep our staff aware of the latest requirements in completing tasks safely and also educates them on new processes and procedures.

Examples of our advanced certifications are: OSHA 30 Hour Construction – Authorized and Competent Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue – OSHA 30 Hour General Industry – Authorized and Competent Rigging – Confined Space Safety and Rescue. As our employees add these certifications to their qualifications list, they are able to rise in both job level and compensation. This reinforces our efforts to continually preach the zero-accident philosophy as well as equips or people with the tools to accomplish this goal.
